Biased Stem Cell Poll

Newsweek: "Do you think the federal government should lift restrictions on stem-cell research?"

What restrictions? There are no restrictions on stem cell research in the United States. None, not one. Researchers can carry out whatever kind of research they want. That the government doesn't subsidize this research doesn't mean that it is restricting it, any more than the government not funding this blog doesn't mean it is restricting it.

So Bush's policy allows anybody to research stem cells to their heart's content. (And of course, there are other stem cells, those which we can use that don't result in the destruction of an embryo, that have proven to have as much, if not more value.) But he doesn't want to provide funding that would destroy human life, that would lead to the creation of life for the expressed purpose of destroying that life. He wants to maintain a balance between pursuing science while maintaining our ethics. What an un-naunced, fundamentalist neanderthal!

I guess I am a victum of the spin. I understood that Bush was controlling stem cell research. But then again my only knowledge of it came from the major network media.

The question is over what the government will do with our tax money. The private sector is free to do as it pleases.
