Rudy to SoCons: step aside

Fresh from shooting himself in the foot from his support for public funding of abortion, he whips out his gun and goes for the other leg:
"Our party is going to grow, and we are going to win in 2008 if we are a party characterized by what we're for, not if we're a party that’s known for what we're against," the former New York mayor said at a midday campaign stop. . . .

"Our party has to get beyond issues like that," Giuliani said, a reference to abortion rights, which he supports.
Ah, yes; social conservatives need to "get beyond" their hangup with protecting innocent life. If Guiliani has a difference in opinion, then yours is just irrelevant, after all. Apparently he's too dense to realize that alienating the most powerful faction of the GOP, that is responsible for getting Republicans elected, may be a bad idea.

Guiliani is no conservative. He's just a liberal that happens to grasp what "national security" means.
