Freedom from speech

Liberals love to champion their commitment to freedom of speech. That is, until it gets in the way of their favorite freedom: abortion.

Massachusetts has expanded its no-free-speech zones. Holding signs, handing out pamphlets, and conversing with abortion clinic entrants, among other activities, is banned by law.

"Women in the Commonwealth have the right to obtain medical care free from violence, harassment or intimidation, and this new law will guard that right," reacted Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. "By widening the buffer zone around reproductive clinics we will protect patients from the harassment that so many have encountered as they seek care."

But violence, harassment, and intimidation is already against the law. You're protected whether you're entering Planned Parenthood or Dunkin' Doughnuts. But protection from pleas and protests? That's only for Planned Parenthood and friends.

My assumption would be that that the protesting and handing out of pamphlets is considered a form of passive intimidation since they are trying to keep people away in the first place. It's kind of like when a homeless guy gives you his sob story and then asks you for money. In most cases you would feel guilty if you didn't help him and then you would feel better if you did. Basically, its the confrontation, though it may seem normal, the homeless guy would be working off of your guilt. In the case of the protesting of the anti abortionists, they are doing that and intimidating patients. It's psychological intimidation and I believe that's the argument. As for the homeless guy, well I could give a damn because I purposely don't carry change so I never feel guilty. I took too long to get to the point but it's in there...somewhere.

Freedom from intimidation isn't something that's Constitutionally protected. Freedom of speech is.

I love it how liberals fabricate up the fact that abortion is a "right". Yeah, just as much as walking around in public naked.
