Is Pizza worth a human life?

Apparently it is, according to Pizza Hut, who punished one of their employees for using a gun in self-defense. Their policy is that employees are not allowed to carry guns "because that is the safest for everybody."

This is, of course, false. Since pizza delivery men are often sent into bad neighborhoods, places that nobody would ordinarily go, with big signs that announce to the world that they have money on them, they have a giant bulls-eye on them as targets for robbery. They must be feeling safe already!

Is it unreasonable that these people should be able to defend themselves, if the worst happens? What Pizza Hut is saying is that it is not afraid for their employees' safety, but for the liability that might result if a criminal survives the encounter and sues Pizza Hut.

Instead of seeking to protect their workers, Pizza Hut has gone out of its way to make them defenseless. So in other words, dead employees are better than possible bad publicity.

Look what else Pizza Hut is up to. Hey, I guess they treat their employees as good as their customers!
